The short version
workafro lists remote jobs that people living in African countries can actually apply for. Every listing links to the employer's own application page, or to the role's page on jobs.workable.com, which leads to it. We never charge job seekers or employers, and we never ask you to pay to apply.
To get there, we follow four rules:
- We read jobs from employers' own job boards, not from reposted copies.
- We keep a role only if its location shows it's open to people in Africa.
- We tag each role by who can apply, from one country up to worldwide.
- We re-check every day and drop roles that have closed.
We read employer job boards directly
Most companies post jobs through a hiring system. Many of these systems publish open roles in a public, machine-readable form, so the jobs can appear on the company's careers page. We read those public feeds for boards on Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable, SmartRecruiters, Recruitee, BambooHR, Personio, Breezy and Pinpoint.
The systems' own documentation explains why this is reliable. Greenhouse says its job board data is publicly available. Lever says postings in the published state are publicly viewable. Ashby's posting API returns an organization's currently published jobs. So what we read is what the employer has live right now, along with the link to the employer's own application form.
Our first scan, in October 2026, checked more than 24,000 employer job boards. The boards with roles open to Africa are the ones we re-read every day.
Other ways we find roles
- Workable's job search. We search jobs.workable.com for remote roles in each of the 54 African countries. These listings link to the role's page on jobs.workable.com, Workable's public job search, where you apply through the employer's Workable form.
- Himalayas, for discovery only. Himalayas is a remote job site. We use it to spot companies and roles, then look for the same role on the employer's own board. If we find it, we link to the employer. If we can't find it there, we leave the role out. We never send you to another job site's copy of a listing.
When the same role turns up twice, through the same link or the same employer and job title, we show it once and prefer the employer's own board.
How we read the location
A role has to say it's remote, and its location has to show that people in Africa can apply. We tag each role with one of five tiers:
| Tier | What the employer's location says | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Country | Names one or more African countries or cities | "Remote, Kenya" or "Lagos, Nigeria" |
| Region | Names a region of Africa | "East Africa", "MENA" or "Sub-Saharan Africa" |
| Africa | Names the whole continent | "Remote, Africa" or "Pan-African" |
| EMEA | Europe, the Middle East and Africa | "Remote, EMEA" |
| Worldwide | Says worldwide, global or anywhere in the world | "Anywhere in the world" |
Country and region roles are the safest bets. Africa-wide is close behind. EMEA and worldwide roles are open on paper, but some employers still hire only where they already have payroll, so read the full ad.
For region, Africa-wide, EMEA and worldwide roles, we also read the employer's own job description. If it adds a rule that rules Africa out, such as "must be based in Poland" or "authorised to work in the UK", we leave the role out. Our guides to what worldwide remote really means and EMEA remote jobs from Africa explain how to judge them.
We also flag roles that suit early-career applicants, based on words in the job title such as junior, graduate, intern, associate or assistant, unless the title also says senior, lead or manager. See entry-level remote jobs.
Why some roles are left out
We'd rather show fewer roles you can apply for than more roles you can't. We leave a role out when:
- The location says only "Remote" or "Anywhere". That often means remote within the employer's own country. We keep it only if the employer's own description backs it up: it names the African countries another source lists for the role, or Africa, or says the role is open anywhere in the world.
- The description rules Africa out, for example "must be based in the UK" or a German-language requirement for a role in Germany.
- It isn't a job, such as a talent pool, a board seat, a volunteer post or a call for consultants.
- The location names only places outside Africa, such as "Remote, US" or "Remote, UK and Ireland".
- The title targets another market, such as "Account Executive, DACH", even when the location says EMEA or worldwide.
- We can't find it on the employer's own page.
- It's old. Roles first posted more than 120 days ago drop out.
- It isn't remote. Office-based roles aren't what this site is for.
Our location rules aren't perfect. Employers write locations in many ways, and now and then a role slips through or gets left out by mistake.
The daily refresh
Every day, starting at about 03:20 UTC, we re-read the employer boards, rerun the Workable search for all 54 countries and check for new roles. Then:
- roles that are no longer on the employer's board drop off the site
- new roles are added, with the date we first saw them
- we record the date we last confirmed each role was live
If a board doesn't answer one day, because of a network error for example, we keep its roles from the previous check for up to three days, so one bad connection doesn't empty a page. After that, they go.
Even so, an employer can close a role between our checks. If the apply page says the job is closed, it most likely closed after our last check.
What we can't check, and how to help
We check where a role is open and that it's live on the employer's page. We don't vet each employer's finances, interview process or contract terms. Before you share documents or sign anything:
- read the full ad on the employer's site, including any eligibility notes
- never pay to apply, train or start; see remote job scams in Africa
- ask how you'd be hired and paid; see contractor or employee
