Privacy policy
workafro is a free list of remote jobs. You use it without an account and you apply on the employer's own website, so we hold almost nothing about you. This page explains what we receive, why and who else handles it.
- No accounts, no forms and no cookies.
- Cloudflare, which hosts the site, receives technical details such as your IP address with every request.
- We count daily visitors without cookies and without storing your IP address.
- We never collect CVs or applications, and job seekers never pay.
Who is responsible
workafro is run by Oleg Cherkas, who also runs work.ke. He decides what personal data this website handles and how it's used.
For any question or request about your data, email rafiki@work.ke. It's the same address shown on our contact page.
What we receive and why
workafro has no accounts, no forms and no cookies. You read listings without telling us who you are, and you apply on the employer's own website.
Every visit: Cloudflare hosting
- What
- Technical details your browser sends with every request, such as your IP address, the page you ask for, the time and your browser type.
- Why
- To deliver the page, keep the site fast and protect it from abuse.
- Handled by
- Cloudflare, which hosts the site. See the Cloudflare privacy policy and its data processing addendum.
Daily visitor count, without cookies
- What
- When a page opens, your browser sends one short signal to our own counter. The counter turns your IP address and browser identification string into a one-way code, mixed with a secret that changes every day and is deleted the next day, so the code can't be traced back to you. We keep only that code, the date, your country and whether you use a phone. No cookie is set and your IP address isn't stored.
- Why
- To know how many different people use workafro each day. Known bots and data-centre traffic aren't counted.
- Handled by
- Our own counter, which runs on Cloudflare. Daily counts are kept for up to 400 days.
The country you pick, in your own browser
- What
- When you pick a country on the home page, your browser saves its two-letter code (for example KE) in its own storage, so the page remembers your choice next time.
- Why
- Only so you don't have to pick your country again.
- Handled by
- Nobody else. It stays in your browser and is never sent to us. You can clear it in your browser settings.
If you email us
- What
- Your email address, your name if you give it and what you write.
- Why
- Only to reply to you or to check a listing you told us about.
- Handled by
- Google, which runs our mailbox. See the Google privacy policy.
What we never collect
We never collect CVs, applications, ID numbers or payment details, and job seekers never pay anything. When you apply, your details go to the employer through its own website and its own privacy policy applies.
Our channels
Our WhatsApp and Telegram links open those apps. If you follow one of our channels, you do it inside the app, and its own privacy policy applies. See the WhatsApp privacy policy and the Telegram privacy policy.
Where your data goes
Cloudflare and Google are based in the United States, so the little data they handle for workafro may be processed outside your country.
How long we keep it
Daily visitor counts are kept for up to 400 days. Emails are kept while we need them to answer you or to check a listing, and are then deleted. Cloudflare keeps its technical logs for the periods set out in its own policy.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, data protection law may give you the right to ask whether we hold personal information about you, to get a copy, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to its use. Email rafiki@work.ke and we'll answer as soon as we can.
If you're unhappy with how we handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.
Security
Every page is served over HTTPS, so what you send and receive is encrypted between your browser and the server.
Changes to this policy
When workafro changes how it handles personal data, we update this page first and change the date at the top. We won't start collecting a new kind of personal data without explaining it here first.
