How the sum works
GB an hour = (Mbps up + Mbps down) x 3,600 / 8 / 1,000. Zoom gives 1.2 Mbps each way for a 720p call between two people. That's 2.4 Mbps, or 1.08 GB an hour. Two hours a day for 22 days is 47.52 GB. A 720p group call on Zoom needs 2.6 Mbps up and 1.8 Mbps down, or 1.98 GB an hour.
The figures behind it
| Call | Vendor's figure |
|---|---|
| Zoom 1:1 720p | 1.2 Mbps up and down |
| Zoom 1:1 1080p | 3.8 Mbps up, 3.0 Mbps down |
| Zoom group 720p | 2.6 Mbps up, 1.8 Mbps down |
| Zoom high quality 1:1 | 600 kbps |
| Google Meet 720p | up to 1.7 Mbps each way |
| Google Meet audio only | 100 Kbps |
| Microsoft Teams HD | under 1.5 Mbps, and we count 1.5 each way |
These are what the vendors say a call needs. Your meter may read differently. A real call can use less, especially with your camera off.

Questions people ask
How much data does Google Meet use?
Google gives up to 1.7 Mbps each way for 720p. That's at most about 1.53 GB an hour by our sum, and audio only is far less.
How can I use less data on calls?
Turn your camera off or use audio only. Google gives 100 Kbps for audio on Meet, which is about 0.09 GB an hour counting both ways.
