A worked example

40 hours at 10 USD is 400 USD. One setup fee of 50 USD brings the total to 450 USD. Enter one line for each, and the invoice adds them up. The tax line only shows if you type a rate.

Two country rules to know

Kenya. KRA says "all persons carrying on business including those who are not registered for VAT are required to electronically generate and transmit their invoices". That's eTIMS, and this invoice doesn't replace it. Read the KRA notice.

Ghana. The Bank of Ghana says foreign currency invoices may be issued only to expatriates or non-residents, with the money paid into a Foreign Exchange Account at a licensed bank. Read the notice.

In other countries, check with your own tax authority. Our guide to invoicing a client abroad goes through what to put on it.

Where your invoice is kept

Your details are saved in this browser's own storage so you don't have to type them next time. They aren't sent to us. Clear them with the button when you're on a shared computer, and keep a PDF of every invoice for your records. Then find more remote work.

Questions people ask

Can I invoice as an individual?

This tool works with or without a company name or tax number. Whether you must register depends on your country, so check with your tax authority.

Should an employee send an invoice?

No. If you're an employee, including through an employer of record, you're paid through payroll. Invoices are for contractors.

This is not tax advice, and it doesn't replace any invoice your tax authority requires. Reviewed on 2 November 2026.
