How to read the result
The US Federal Trade Commission puts it plainly: "If someone asks you to pay to get a job, that's a scam." It also says "Reshipping goods is never a real job" and "Never bank on a 'cleared' check." So a yes on those questions gives the top warning by itself.
The other questions are our own list of how doubtful offers behave. One yes doesn't prove anything, as a small real firm may have a thin website. Several yes answers mean you should treat it as a scam until you can prove otherwise.
The tool never says a job is safe. No signs found isn't proof it's real, so still check the employer's own site.
What to do next
Find the employer's website yourself, not through a link they sent you, and look for the role there. Keep the messages. Don't send your ID or bank details until you've checked.
Applying through workafro is free, and nobody should pay for a job. Every role we list links to the employer's own page: browse remote roles. For more signs, read remote job scams in Africa and what we found on online jobs that pay daily.
Questions people ask
How can I tell if a remote job is real?
Find the employer's own website by yourself and look for the job there. Real employers don't ask you to pay to get hired.
Do you check the company I type in?
No. The tool asks about behaviour only and never names a company. Your answers stay on this page.
