The short answer
On 1 November 2026 we listed 25 roles with virtual assistant in the title, from 8 employers. Add executive, personal and admin assistants, and it's 79 roles from 19 employers. All 79 name specific countries, and most of those name South Africa. None says worldwide.
So if you live in Nigeria or Uganda, you may find few right now, and it's better to know that before you pay anyone for a course. We count titles, so a role called something else won't be here. The live list is here.
Who hires
| Employer | Assistant roles, all four kinds |
|---|---|
| Assist World | 19 |
| Pavago | 14 |
| Huzzle | 8 |
| ReWorks Solutions | 5 |
| VirtuHire | 5 |
| Hire Overseas | 4 |
| Remote Recruitment | 4 |
| CrewBloom | 3 |
Going by their own pages, several of these find staff for other companies. Pavago calls itself a talent marketplace, and ReWorks Solutions and VirtuHire offer staff to companies. Huzzle says it's "completely free for candidates". So ask who you'd really work for. Being here doesn't mean a firm works with us.
Which countries they name
| Country named | Virtual assistant titles (25) | All four kinds (79) |
|---|---|---|
| South Africa | 18 | 61 |
| Kenya | 1 | 8 |
| Egypt | 2 | 4 |
| Morocco | 4 | 4 |
| Ghana | 1 | 3 |
| Ethiopia | 2 | 2 |
| Nigeria | 0 | 1 |
If you're in South Africa, this is a real market. If you're elsewhere, keep an eye on your country's page and look at admin and support roles too, as the same skills apply. If you're in Kenya or Ghana, you've got some. In Nigeria and Uganda, these titles are rare at the moment.
What the work looks like, from real titles
The word assistant covers very different jobs. Here are real titles from our list:
- Medical Practice Virtual Assistant, Dermatology
- Executive Assistant, Psychology Practice
- Virtual Executive Assistant and Content Strategist
- Personal Assistant, Private Client Support
- Bookkeeper and Executive Assistant
- Executive Assistant to the CEO
You can see the pattern. Many employers want an assistant who also knows something: a medical office, some bookkeeping or content. So if you've done that kind of work, say it. Five of the 79 sit in healthcare, and that's a useful niche if you've worked in a clinic.
72 of the 79 carry our entry level flag, which comes from the words in the title. A title match isn't proof, so read what the advert asks for. An executive assistant to a founder won't usually be a first job, whatever the flag says.
How to get ready
- Write clearly. Most of this job happens in writing. Your application email is the first test, so try our email builder.
- Know the common tools. Email, calendars, shared documents and spreadsheets. See the remote work tools checklist.
- State your hours. A client in the US or UK needs to know when you're there. The time zone tool gives you a line to paste.
- Show your setup. Mention your internet and power backup. Our CV builder has a box for it.
- Tailor your CV to each advert. Use the word check.
Don't pay for a course to get hired
You'll see offers that promise a virtual assistant job after a paid course. Nobody should pay for a job, or pay for a course as a condition of being hired. The US Federal Trade Commission's rule is simple: "If someone asks you to pay to get a job, that's a scam." Learning a skill is fine if you choose it for yourself. A promise of work in return for your fee isn't. Use our scam check if an offer feels off.
We can't tell you what these roles pay, as our data holds no pay figures and we won't guess. Ask each employer before the interview, get the answer in writing, and read what adverts really say about dollars. For more beginner roles, see who hires beginners. We counted these from our own list of remote roles on 1 November 2026. Roles open and close every week, so treat it as a snapshot.
